Tellicherry

Tellicherry Black Pepper is the most famous product of this little coastal town in northern Kerala, which became a busy port under the British East India Company exporting cardamom, coffee, coconut and sandalwood. It was divided from the neighbouring French enclave of Mahé by a river nicknamed "The English Channel". The British built a mighty fort and a folly, which are still popular strolling spots. To the east of the town is the Thiruvangad Temple, dedicated to Sri Ramaswami and known as the "Brass Pagoda" because, like the nearby 400-year-old Odathil Mosque, it has a copper roof. Tellicherry is a famous centre for teaching circus skills and particularly for Theyyam, a spectacular and intense form of dance and music that started as an indigenous cult but was absorbed into Hindu culture. Dances take place between October and March. Four kilometres to the north, Muzhappilangad Beach is a handsome stretch of sand, popular with visitors and locals alike.

Client Testimonials

I had a very lovely time and was looked after splendidly. My first visit to India could not have been better, save for being longer! But I shall return at some point and I shall look to you to make the arrangements.
- Matthew Nicklin, North India
Getting to Amanpulo from Manila was very simple and the beach was the most beautiful I’d ever been on; pristine white sand, not a single piece of rubbish in sight. You get your own solar powered golf buggy to drive around resort (and a butler at request). The views from the Hillside Casita were spectacular!
- Mr Wyburd, Philippines
We had a wonderful holiday - everything was perfect. Thank you for helping us to make a thoughtful plan to enjoy and make most out of our trip. The places we visited, the guides, the transportation and driver, the hotels selected... Everything was great!
- Jaime Benitez, South India
