Gangaikondacholapuram

The 11th -century temple at Gangaikondacholapuram, forming part of UNESCO's World Heritage Site, is 100 metres long and 40 metres wide and was built to commemorate a series of conquests by the Chola kings that took them all the way up to the Gangetic plain. Its stone sculptures include a dancing Ganesha, an ornately decorated well topped by a lion's head, a massive stone lingam and an exquisite frieze depicting Rajendra being crowned by Shiva and Parvati. It also houses some remarkable Chola bronzes - it was one of their capitals before the dynasty fell in the 13th century - and a spectacular 55-metre-high, eight-tiered pyramidal structure towers above its sanctuary.

I would recommend Ampersand without any hesitation!!! The best travel agent that I’ve ever had. Everything – from the individual care and attention in planning the trip, through to the efficiency of the agents on the ground in India – was handled brilliantly. An absolutely first-class service all round!

Ampersand’s preparation, attention to detail and interaction before and during our trip show exactly why good travel agents have a role in today’s internet booking age. They were a delight to deal with!
- Mr David Wallace, North India
I had a very lovely time and was looked after splendidly. My first visit to India could not have been better, save for being longer! But I shall return at some point and I shall look to you to make the arrangements.
